The start of 2009 has fortunately been really busy --everyone seems eager to making great music. 

 

Many records have come through the studio recently, reaching the charts -- including a transforming album by Deerhunter (#1 on CMJ) and a highly anticipated album release from the The Fiery Furnaces; a double-CD live album for The Black Crowes titled “Warpaint Live” bringing back the live rock/soul recording that established the genre; charting CD and vinyl releases for Animal Collective; “I Blame You” album by Obits and 7” single for Arthur & Yu both have that edgy and new feel that Sub-Pop Records is known for; “Voyage” - Atlantis Lounge from Tommy Boy; Dan Deacon’s Bromst and Yacht’s Psychic City (Voodoo City) join 4 other projects on Pitchfork’s Best New Albums list; nearly the entire Eagle Rock/Spitfire catalog for Black Label Society of pounding hard-rock; indie artist Dirty Projectors (Domino Records); Morningside; Jeff Brett Ran Cohen; experimental sounds from Black Dice; Ursula 1000’s eclectic blend of lounge, rock and hip-hop; singer/songwriter Matt Keating; Grindcity; Argentine artist Federico Aubele; gospel/reggae artist Mya Daniel, and a beat-box album by Adam Matta just to name a handful.

 

Also coming through the studio:  double-CD from Red Hot Record Label Dark Was The Night (“Best New Music” on CMJ) -- with songs from Feist, The National, Arcade Fire, David Byrne, My Morning Jacket, Spoon, Cat Power and many more.

 

Joe mastered the new CD “Nuance” for Lynn Arriale. The pianist is joined by Randy Brecker on trumpet, George Mraz on bass and Anthony Pinciotti on drums.  Hip Hop label GWC Records brought in their flagship release “The Album” featuring various artists.  Alex Gimeno of Ursula 1000 was in with engineer/producer Eli Janney working with Joe to master his new record “Mystics”.  Joe also mastered the cast recording of the Broadway musical “The Marvelous Wonderettes”.

 

Roman Vail has been gaining in experience, working with new breakout artists Albeback ft. Fabolous on a great single “Mira Mira”; Mitsue from hip-hop hit-maker Boola showcasing “Strut” and “Guard Up”; Temple Hill blending reggae and rock/funk for their debut release; also Kono Michi debut album that blends electronic, bohemian and classical violin sounds with organic percussion; Nolo, Reggae-pop/World music artist; Zander Bleck’s 80’s-inspired club tracks deliver today’s sound now; Stamina Entertainment’s hip-hop single “Big Money”; Fati & Charles’ “El Baile del Sombrero”; Soga and his urban latin groove; Electro-Rock artist Aramis Zitu; World music artist Dimple Nandra, bridging African rhythms with soulful vocals; unique sounds from bands like Dfactor and Playtime in Omsk; soulful harmonies from sister-group Chapel Road; reggae artist Angela Latti; hard-rock group Jollyband; Benjamin, and New England college circuit band Good Morning Chester, plus others.
